Gents Invitation Triples
Sponsored By Western Ferries
Sunday the 3rd of May A.B.C. saw a full green of 48 bowlers, some from as far afield as Comrie and Leshmahagow competing for the Robinson Cup.
After a short speech by Pres. G.Smith thanking Western Ferries for their sponsorship and welcoming the assembled company, play, to everyones surprise commenced in brilliant sunshine. The weather however reverted to type after two hours with play being brought to a temporary halt by torrential rain and a hail shower. This little episode also smashed up another gazebo with a strong gust of wind.
As they say though, the sun shines on the righteous and as luck would have it, there must have been one somewhere on the green with it reappearing, allowing the competition to be played to its conclusion.
The semis were played of between a Kirn & H.Q team of I.Hunter ( skip), I.Goffin, J.Love v M.Martin, ( Skip), D.Reynolds, J. Gilchrist Rothesay B.C., and D.Beattie ( skip ), A.Kennedy, S.McNab, Upper Cowal B.C. v A.Scott (skip), Gary Scott, Harry Smith of Bogle Ha’ B.C. with the Triples of Kirn & Hunters Quay and Upper Cowal Progressing to the final with the Upper Cowal triple deservedly winning the Robinson Cup on the 21st anniversary of the competition.
The committee would like to thank the following. All the bowlers who came from near and far and competed in such a sporting and good natured manner in somewhat trying conditions at times and Lettie Dempster umpire on the day.
A special mention must go to our members and non members, especially the ladies who brought purvey, gave of their time and worked so hard as ever throughout the day.
Lastly President G.Smith for officiating.

Dear Members and others
On observing a bumble bee attempting to obtain some sustenance from a Hyacinth in a sheltered spot in the garden, it came to my mind that summer, or a season which would vaguely represent it was fast approaching. By this time it is to be hoped those of us that qualify for it (which is probably about 98%) have all recovered from our flu jabs. Members will have noticed that once again our government is doing it’s utmost to improve our health and increase our depression levels by increasing the price of alcohol and banning chocolate.
Luckily for you a panacea is at hand, i.e. the bowling green with all its health giving qualities such as the exercise of kicking your opponents shot bowls into the ditch, collective shaking of heads at the skips choice of shot and a proven aid to health, collective bloodletting, admittedly we use midgies instead of leeches but it has the same effect. Flailing off the arms in conjunction with this is an added benefit to the heart rate and circulation. So if you were thinking about doing something less active during the summer think again. You will miss the huge benefit to your health and we would miss you.
The green has been hollow cored, top dressed, solid tined, cut and fertilized. It still seems to be draining well.
Winners of last seasons trophies who should progress to Scottish and Argyll & Bute ties have been duly entered.
